Island Flying Adventure Course

The Big Island is the best place in the country to get your Instrument Rating. The perfect IFR flight is a short cross-country from Kona to Hilo, 50 miles across the Big Island. You fly the airways up to 8000 ft. and descend into Hilo's Class-D airspace with radar approach control. Hilo sits on the windward “wet side” of the island where clouds and rain are the norm.
If you fly just for recreational sport, the Instrument Rating
gives you more flexibility with your Private Pilot license because you will
be qualified to fly through clouds and land in conditions that would
otherwise keep you on the ground. If you are on a career path in
aviation, the Instrument rating is the next logical step after completion of
the Private Pilot Certificate.
Instructional Areas Covered
